V.P.Singh Badnore Inaugurates 2000 Kwp Grid Tied Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant At Chandigarh

The Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Shri V.P. Singh Badnore, inaugurated 2000 kWp Grid tied Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant at Water Works Station, Sector-39, which was presided over by Smt. Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament, Chandigarh

Speaking on the occasion, the Administrator appreciated the efforts taken by UT Administration in developing Chandigarh as a Model Solar City. He desired that UT Chandigarh should aim to achieve 50 MW Solar Target before its due time i.e. before. 2022 The Administrator took a round of various facilities in Water Works Station. A Presentation was made by Chief Engineer, MC about existing facilities and proposed expansion being planned by MC.Smt. Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament, Chandigarh lauded the efforts of Chandigarh Administration in making it a leading Solar City of the country. She informed that Chandigarh Renewal Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society ( CREST) has achieved a milestone by installing this 2000 kWp Solar plant which is the largest solar Plant in the nearby region .This  2000 kWp  Grid tied Rooftop SPV Power Plant Project has been implemented and commissioned by CREST through M/s Hero Solar Energy Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi.  

The total cost of this Project is Rs.12.80 crores which include operation & maintenance charge for 10 years.  This Plantis able to generate 2.60 MU of Solar Energy per year, which is equivalent to reduction of 1801 metric ton of CO2 and in turn equivalent to planting of 1.94 Lakh trees per year, and hence a remarkable initiative under Climate Change Action Plan.On this occasion, Adviser to the Administrator Sh. Parimal Rai emphasized that Government of India has set an ambitious target of installation of 50 MW Solar Plant for UT Chandigarh by 2022. Though it is a huge task but Chandigarh Administration is committed in achieving it by providing various incentives and inviting private sector investment in this Solar sector. Chandigarh Administration is committed to take active steps for mitigating the ill effects of climate change.  He further informed that with the installation of this 2 MW plant, the total achievement for Chandigarh has reached to 13.5 MW Solar Power. Prominent persons present on the occasion included Smt. Asha Kumari Jaswal, Mayor, Municipal Corporation Sh. Anurag Agarwal, Home Secretary-cum- Secretary (Science & Tech &RE),   Sh. B. Purushartha, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation and Sh. Santosh Kumar, IFS, Director (Science & Tech & RE) & Chief Executive Officer, CREST, Chandigarh, and other officers of Chandigarh Administration.
