Government College for Women, Kathua today celebrated Teachers’ Day to pay glowing tributes to Dr S Radhakrishnan, great philosopher and teacher- on his birth anniversary in which minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology, Ch Lal Singh was the Chief Guest.The Day was celebrated with great ceremonial elegance and splendor by offering flowery tributes to Dr S Radhakrishnan. Principal of the college, Dr Nutan Rasotra, presided over the function and highlighted the teacher’s role in guiding the students on the right path. He also highlighted several steps initiated by the college administration to augment the college infra besides providing peaceful and safe environment for college students. He further added that proposal for 2 smart class rooms and a conference hall has already been submitted to the concerned authorities and CCTV cameras will be installed soon in the college premises.The Minister appreciated the teachers for their valuable contribution to the society by imparting knowledge and enlightening the future of the students. Describing teachers as nation builders, Lal Singh asked them to supplement the efforts of the government to ensure quality education to all . He also said that this day is an opportunity for the teachers to introspect and move forward with renewed energies to shape the younger generation.

In his address Lal Singh also highlighted the role of teachers in developing leadership qualities among students. He also said that it is the duty of the teacher to instill confidence among the students and provide them with appropriate opportunities to nurture their talent. The minister further advised the students to aim for higher echelons in their life and make concerted efforts to realize their dream under the expert guidance of their teachers.All faculty members were felicitated for their dedicated work during the Teachers Day celebration.A scintillating programme was presented by the students of the college.Earlier, the Minister also flagged off the team going to  participate in the U-14, 17 & 19, Boys and Girls State Level Karate championship at Kargil. As many as 24 students from Kathua are participating in this State Level Championship under the supervision of  Physical Education Teachers.Later, the Minister also participated in a plantation drive organized by the college in association with the District Forest Department.CCF Jammu, Farooq Gillani; Regional Wild Life Warden, Senthil Kumar; CF East Jammu, Kh Qamardin; HoDs of sister wing of Forest Department, ACR, ACD, DPO, DYSSO, BDOs, DFOs, District Officers, College staff and students in large number were present during the function.
