Job Fairs Initiated For Providing Employment To Unemployed Youth In State, Education Minister Inaugurates District Level Job Fair

The Education Minister, Punjab, Aruna Chaudhary today said that the Chief Minister, Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh has made good his promise of providing job to every household with initiation of the drive aimed at providing employment avenues to the unemployed youth. As part of the novel initiative as promised in the manifesto, first District level job fair has been organized at Gurdaspur in which 838 unemployed men and women have been placed in various companies. The minister also said that this one of its kind initiative by the Punjab Government would provide jobs to the unemployed youth at their doorstep through organizing job fairs. The minister was accompanied by MLA Gurdaspur Mr. Barindermeet Singh Pahra and the Deputy Commissioner Mr. Amit Kumar.Interacting with the media-persons after inaugurating a District level job fair by the Employment Generation and Training Department at Sukhjindra Group of Institutes, the minister said that after job fairs, ‘rozgar melas’ would be organized in which the unemployed would be encouraged to start their own ventures and loans would be advanced at low interest rates and the government is formulating a comprehensive policy concerning the same. The minister further disclosed that the Chief Minister is personally monitoring the job fairs of which there would be 21 in all at different venues till 31st August. A total of 900 reputed companies from across the country are participating and jobs to approximately 50,000 pass outs of various courses would be provided.

Mrs. Chaudhary further elaborated that unemployment has been rampant during the past 10 years and now the agenda of the Captain Amarinder Singh led government is to effectively control the menace. The minister also said that education would be modernized and brought in tune with the changing trends so as to generate maximum job avenues in the state. She also detailed that a budget of Rs. 20 crore has been kept to provide infrastructural facilities to the students in the government schools. Apart from this, Rs. 9.25 crore are also being spent for fulfilling other basic needs. Every school is being equipped with the latest amenities and the rationalization is being carried out to fill the shortage of teachers in schools.In the job fair today, Vardhman company (Baddi) employed 6 men as machine operators, Indian Acrylics company Sangrur employed 48 as machine operator and stitching operator, Arihant Spinning Mill Malerkotla employed 26 as machine operator, Radiant Textile Patiala employed 101 as Training machine operator, Checkmate Services Limited Company Ludhiana employed 20 as Security Guard, LIC Batala-1 employed 87 as insurance agent, LIC Batala-2 employed 286 as insurance agent, Vodafone Amritsar gave job to 74 as salesman, Connect India gave job to 32 as delivery boys, Honda Group employed 100 as salesman, BSICS company gave job to 45 as salesman while industrial units gave jobs to 13. Out of total 838 candidates placed 181 were women and 657 were men. 

Besides this, vardhman company has also registered 113 women apart from placing them and the company has also said that it would offer employment to 500 more women.On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mr. Sakattar Singh Bal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Mr. Jagwinderjit Singh Sandhu, SDM Batala Mr. Rohit Gupta, Assistant Commissioner (Greivances) Mr. Amit Gupta, Tehsildar Mr. Navtej Singh Sodhi, Chairman Sukhjindra Group of Institutes Mr. Sukhjinder Singh, DDPO Mr. Harjinder Singh, District Employment Officer Mr. Parshottam Singh, District Education Officer (Secondary) Mrs. Rakesh Bala, Mr. Baljit Singh Pahra, Deputy D.E.O. (Secondary) Mr. Rakesh Gupta, District Guidance Counsellor Mr. Parminder Singh Saini, Co-ordinator Nehru Yuva Kendar Mr. Bikram Singh Gill, Deputy Director Sainik Welfare Board Mr. Satinderbir Singh and officers from various departments were also present.
