'Provide adequate vehicles, security to Legislators'

A meeting of the Committee on Privileges of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was held here today under the Chairmanship of MLA, Mohammad Yousuf Bhat.Threadbare discussions were held on the Warrant of Precedence vis-a-vis the privileges and immunities conferred upon the Legislators by the Constitution.Legislators, Mohammad Amin Bhat, Javed Hassan Baig, Dina Nath Bhagat and Aijaz Ahmed Mir attended the meeting and highlighted the problems being faced by them during their visit in their constituencies regarding the vehicles allotted to them by the Home Department.The Committee directed the concerned authorities of Home Department to provide the adequate security and vehicles to the legislators which are in good conditions and priority to be given to those legislators who are belonging to the far-flung and disturbed areas.

The Committee directed the concerned authorities for proper verifications of the Drivers and PSOs before being allotted to the legislators.

The Committee also highlighted the demands of other related issues including enhancement of salary of SPOs and fuel should be provided to the vehicles of legislators in their constituencies etc.The Committee directed the Assembly Secretariat to forward the recommendation of the Committee Finance Department to provide adequate funds to purchase of new vehicles to cater to the demands of the legislators.The Committee appreciated the role of the Police department for recruitment from last two years in the department.Principal Secretary, Home Department, R K Goel and Director General of Police, S P Vaid assured the Committee that all the genuine grievances and complaints of the legislators and the matter would be taken up with the concerned quarter as early as early possible.Among other, Special, DG Hq, V K Singh, Secretary Legislative Assembly, M R Singh besides senior officers of Police and Assembly Secretariat were present in the meeting.
