Speaker Kavinder Gupta attends series of I-Day functions

Speaker, Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta today attended series of functions organised by the locals in various parts of Gandhi Nagar constituency to celebrate Independence Day.The Speaker exchanged greetings with the people, unfurled the National Flag and attended the cultural programmes organised as part of the national day celebration.  Remembering their sacrifices, the Speaker paid rich tribute and saluted all heroes who contributed to the prolonged struggle for Indian freedom.He reminded the people about their duties towards the nation and urged them to work for the progress of the country.Speaker said that the perception of the world towards India is changing positively as it’s fast emerging as an economic power.Listing the government’s development targets, the Speaker said it will spare no effort to achieve these targets in a time-bound manner. He said the government needs public co-operation and contribution for effective implementation of development schemes.

“A monitoring mechanism is being put in place to review government programmes and speedy completion of various developmental projects in the state”, he added. He said eliminating corruption is the top priority of the state government and anyone indulging in malpractices will be dealt with iron hands.The Speaker appealed to the people, especially youth, to contribute towards nation building. He asked people to take a pledge to create new India that is strong, prosperous and inclusive. Senior political and social leaders accompanied the Speaker.Later, the Speaker also took part in Shobha Rath Yatra  taken out from Laxmi Narayan Mandir, Gandhi Nagar  on the eve of Janmashtami and greeted people on the auspicious day.A large number of devotees including prominent citizens, leaders of various political parties and social organizations attended the function.
