In a major reprieve to the Punjab TET qualified teachers, the Council of Ministers today gave nod to issue appointment orders to recruit 1337 candidates out of 6060 posts of Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) qualified master cadre teachers advertised in 2015.Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office said that this decision was taken at the Council of Ministers meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. The CoM also decided in-principle to advertise 4183 new posts in view of judgment of the Supreme Court. Acceding to the long pending demands of these TET qualified candidates, the CoM also gave approval to grant relaxation in the age for fresh recruitment from the existing 37 to 38 years. The CoM also directed the Education department to immediately take up the issue with National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) to enhance the validity of eligibility to 8 years from existing norm of 7 years. As per the current provisions, these teachers could only be appointed within seven years of clearing the TET examination conducted by State Council for Education, Research and Training (SCERT). It may be recalled that since these teachers had passed the examination in 2011, their eligibility for appointment would lapse in 2018.
