Congregational prayers allowed at Jamia Masjid after seventh Fridays

After remaining sealed by 49 days, authorities on Friday allowed congregational Friday prayers in Jamia Masjid Srinagar. Reports said that there was no siege around the Masjid on Friday and people in hoards thronged the masjid to offer mandatory congregational Friday prayers.Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Umar Farooq was however not allowed to offer the Friday prayers as he continues to be under house detention at his Nigeen based residence.Reports said that shortly after the culmination of Friday congregation prayers massive clashes erupted between youth and government forces in Old Srinagar's Rajouri Kadal.Eyewitnesses said that the youth assembled after the culmination of Friday prayers outside the Jamia Masjid and staged protest.. However, police and para-military forces shot tear-gas and pepper gas canisters to disperse the protestors. Many people were injured during the clashes. (CNS)
