For Kashmir Police Chief, Policing is not a rocket-science but truthfulness, courtesy and impartiality towards common people. “My basic aim is to improve trust deficit between police and public. I have given clear cut directions to the police station heads, not to harass innocent people. There were complaints that youth are being called to police stations and pressurized. Lot of improvement has come and now you will not see such type of complaints emerging from people,” Inspector General of Police, Munir Ahmed Khan said on Wednesday.In a chat with news agency CNS, Munir Ahmed Khan asked common people to approach him directly in case they face harassment. “Come directly to me if anybody harasses you in police stations. I meet applicants personally and get a lot of satisfaction while resolving their genuine grievances. I have directed all the officers to give common people fair investigation on merit without any pressure,” Khan said and refuted the charges that some youth have picked up gun due to alleged police brutality.“It is important to check the track record of militants getting killed in encounters. At least 14 cases including a stabbing one had been registered against Sajad Ahmed of Nowhatta who was killed in a gun fight in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district. Instead of checking the facts, we were blamed for forcing him to join militant ranks.”IGP said that after the death of Burhan Wani, a trend of joining militant ranks emerged in youth while on his anniversary police with the help of parents, teachers and civil society members managed to bring back at least 22 of them. “The killing of Abu Dujana is a history now but the real success is when you stop people from joining militancy and we have succeeded in it.
”Responding to a question, Munir Ahmed Khan said that no religion allows stone-pelting. “Our religion doesn’t allow stone-pelting and violence. Young boys suffer due to their own wrong doings. They are being exploited by those whose names figure in NIA history. We are positive and in touch with stake-holders to guide these youth and bring them on right track,” he said.About the presence of IS or Alqaida in Kashmir, Munir Ahmed Khan said that the matter is under investigation. “I don’t deny that black flags are not waved in Kashmir but we have to find out whether these flags or real of conjured. We are trying to verify and it will take some time,” he said. While talking about the killing of top militant commander Abu Dujana, Inspector General of Police said that he had made his roots in Kashmir and when roots settled, he became a headache. “Abu Dujana was sidelined by Lashkar-e-Toiba and that is why LeT didn’t pay tribute to him. He didn’t follow the policies of his outfit and crossed all the limits,” he said and added that the confusing part of the story is that United Jehad Council issued a statement in his favour while his own organization ignored him.On handing over body of Abu Dujana to Pakistan, IGP said that they will approach concerned quarters and will request them to take the body of Abu Dujana.On militant activity, IGP said that they are getting continuous inputs about the militant movement on National Highway. He said that their job is to keep militants at bay. “Unlike in North Kashmir there are more local militants in South Kashmir,” Munir Ahmed Khan said. (CNS)
