DDC Kulgam convenes meeting

The District Development Commissioner, Kulgam today convened a  joint meeting of Health, Education and ICDS departments to review the functioning of centrally sponsored schemes particularly Beti Bachao Beti Padao scheme.The meeting held a threadbare discussion on the focal areas of girl child including prenatal check-up, Iron and Calcium supplementary nutrients, adolescent education and hygiene, besides female literacy and economic independence of girl child.Speaking on the occasion, the DDC directed the PO ICDS to start a massive awareness campaign in consultation with Health and Education Departments educating the public about the importance of girl health, education and financial and social security.Meanwhile, the DDC also constituted a District Task Force for monitoring the overall development of girl child so that quality human resources and empowerment of girls is achieved.Since the scheme is under implementation in the district, PO ICDS was directed to educate the public about the benefits under the scheme. Under this scheme, incentives shall be provided to the families’ upto first two girl babies while as assistance shall also be provided for third and fourth girl child.The DDC also called for creation a data bank about the girls under different  age groups so that proper strategies are adopted for the holistic development of girl child. The Chief Education Officer was directed to ensure separate toilet facilities for the female students.The meeting was attended by Programme Officer ICDS, ACD, CMO, CEO, all the BMO’s, BDO’s and project officers of ICDS.
