Ailing health care:Tral Hospital lacks facilities and equipment

Doctors at Sub District Hospital Tral here in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district advice patients to visit private clinics as the hospital is suffering from the shortage of desired chemicals and machinery.A Doctor at the Sub-District Hospital Tral candidly told this reporter that due to lack of facilities and defunct machinery they are unable to do justice with the patients. “It’s heart-wrenching sometimes to ask poor patients to visit private clinics where they are being treated at exorbitant rates,” he said.Many female patients said that they have been coming to this Hospital for days together to get their tests done but here they force them to visit private laboratories. Some patients alleged that Para-medical staff earns commission from private laboratories for referring patients to them.When contacted, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Tral Dr Govind Singh Mehta said that they will soon purchase desired chemicals required for some important tests. “We have been trying our best to cater to the needs of patients,” he added.
