Governor meets Union Petroleum Minister

Governor Acharya Devvrat today met Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan and urged him to take effective steps to ensure that maximum poor women of Himachal Pradesh could take benefit of getting free LPG connections under Pradhanmantri Ujjawala Yojana.The Governor said the women of rural parts of the state were largely dependent on fossil fuel which not only impacts their health but also the environment. The free LPG connections would go a long way in women empowerment and protection and increase of the green cover of this hilly state.Shri Pradhan assured that all possible steps would be taken to provide maximum benefit to the state under this scheme and every household of the state would be provided gas connection in coming two years. So far, 14 lakh families out of around 16 lakh had been given this facility.He said that the work of Indian Oil Depot at Una would be completed in 2018 and two bottling plants would be established in the state for refilling of additional 90 thousand metric tonnes LPG.The Governor thanked him for laying foundation stone of Indian Oil Depot at Una recently and urged for speedy completion of this ambitious project, as it would help in fuel stocking for strategically important Leh-Laddakh and Srinagar during winters.
