Vigilance Bureau Punjab has received complaints/information about rampant corruption in the irrigation department. The Chief Director, V. B, Mr B.K. Uppal, IPS, has asked the engineers of irrigation department to cooperate with the Bureau in the larger interest of public as well as the State government, and focus on the pending/ongoing works without any fear.He informed that Vigilance Bureau is conducting the Vigilance Enquiry to verify the allegations regarding execution of a few specific works which were allegedly awarded to contractors in violation of norms, rules and procedures causing huge financial loss running into crores of rupees. This enquiry is being conducted to ascertain whether financial or departmental rules and instructions were strictly followed while executing these works or the works had been accomplished on inflated rates through a few favorite and pre-decided contractors.He maintained that the enquiry would be conducted on merits and action would be taken strictly in accordance with law only.
