FOSS Centre for Spoken Tutorial, Launched at CGC Jhanjeri

Chandigarh Group of colleges, Jhanjeri introduced FOSS Centre for Spoken Tutorial by IIT Bombay. This is a project launched by Ministry of Human Resource Development. Govt of India where the students & the faculty can enhance their technical skills by undergoing online training in the open Source Software & Technology. By this, the staff and students will get additional knowledge in the subjects of their interest which will ultimately increase the employability of students. The centre will house a full-fledged computer lab possessing more than 50 computers loaded with the software of UBUNTU. They will be working in the lab during their free periods and solve various problems with the help of this program. On the completion of their assignments, they will appear in a test & the successful students will be awarded certificates by IIT Bombay. These certificates will prove helpful to students in getting placements in leading companies of India.

Speaking on the occasion, Tanvir Singh, the Outreach Officer of IIT Bombay for this project explained the basic concept & purpose of the centre. He discussed its relevance in not only Engineering field but in Non-Engineering field as well. It will provide exposure to faculty and students to work on LIVE Projects and research work.Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President CGC informed that the aim of free FOSS study is fostering an environment of self-learning, facilitating learning of any of the free open source softwares by the students, faculty members & research scholars of Science, IT, Engineering, Commerce and Management areas ,making the youngsters capable of getting expertise in these software and fetch the job easily or utilize in their enterprise to ensure economy. He appealed to the staff & students to make maximum use of this centre. Dr. G.D Bansal, Director General said that the additional work done by the students will make them more employable.
