MAJOR INITIATIVES IN THE BUDGET 2017-18

Rs. 1500 crore have been provided for debt waiver for farmers;

Rs. 180 crore  loan to Sugar Cooperatives for payment  to cane growers;

Rate of compensation for loss of crops (Kharaba) has been increased from Rs. 8000/- to Rs. 12000/- per acre;

Free text books to all the students- [Rs. 30 crore];

Furniture to all Government Schools;

Computers in the Primary Schools;

State of the Art Green boards in all Primary Schools;

Award for best schools in Blocks and Districts;

Opening of 5 Degree Colleges in educationally backward areas;

Special financial assistance to historical colleges;

Rs. 50 crore for 'Yaari Enterprises' as interest subvention @  3%;

Setting up of  'Rozgar Ate Karobar Bureaus'

Setting up of 'General Sham Singh Attariwala Armed Forces Preparatory Institute';

Rs. 20 crore for 'Guardians of Governance';

Universal Health Insurance Scheme - Rs. 100 crore;

New Medical College at SAS Nagar, Mohali;

Upgradation of infrastructure in the existing Government Medical College and  Hospital, Patiala- Rs. 100 crore;

Grant to historical places, Quila Mubarak Patiala and Fort at Bathinda- (Rs.26 crore);

'Swachh Punjab' Ate 'Sohna Punjab'-Rs. 873.35 crore;

Setting up of 2000 Solar Agriculture Pumps- Rs. 100 crore;

'Paddy Straw Management Challenge fund'- Rs. 5 crore;

Incentives for Gram Panchayat for zero burning of paddy stubble-Rs. 20 crore;

Modified 'Atta Dal Scheme'- Rs. 500 crore;

Border Area Infrastructure Development Programme- Rs. 300 crore;

Social Security pension increased from Rs. 500 to Rs. 750/-;

Construction of 70 new Police Stations and completing 23 incomplete building of Police Stations;

Dial 100 help line;

'Friends of Punjab'-Chief Minister Garima Gram Yojna;

Financial assistance under 'Aashirwad Scheme' increased from Rs. 15000/- to Rs. 21000/- - Rs. 200 crore;

Loan waiver scheme of Punjab Scheduled Caste Land Development & Finance Corporation and Punjab Backward Classes Land                        Development & Finance Corporation [Rs. 17.66 crore and Rs. 2.44 crore respectively] 

Rs. 1103 crore will be spent for   infrastructure development in rural areas;

New scheme of 'Pendu Sarvjan Hitkari' Scheme;

Stamp duty on registration of property has been reduced from 9% to 6%;

Fees charged for transfer of ownership of plots/houses has been reduced from 2.5% to 2%;

Rs.50 crore for Houses for Houseless in Urban & Rural Area.

Honorarium of chowkidars has been increased up to Rs. 1250/- ;

Under 'Captain Smart Connect Scheme', free mobile phones will be provided to youth;

Free electricity up to 300 units per month shall be given to freedom fighters.
