Samba administration finalises anti-flood action plan

The district administration Samba today finalised the anti- flood action plan to meet any eventuality during the upcoming monsoon season. Deputy Commissioner Sheetal Nanda chaired the meeting which was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police, Additional District Development Commissioner, Executive Engineer Flood Control Division, ACD, ACR, Engineers and officers of  I&FC, Town Drainage Division, PDD, BSNL, R&B, RDD, Education, Medical, RTO representatives of  SDRF , Army and Civil Defence.Deputy Commissioner reviewed the department wise preparedness with regard to stocking of essential food commodities, medical facilities, rescue vehicles and arrangements made by PHE, Medical and Police departments to meet the challenges.The meeting was informed that a control room will be set up from July 1, 2017 to September 30th with telephone numbers 01923-243248 and WLL No. 219306 at Flood Control division Samba which shall work round the clock to monitor the situation and for timely coordinated action.

She asked Flood Control Department to monitor all embankments in the flood prone areas and take advance measures to plug possibility of breach of protection bunds. The officers of Army, Civil Defence were directed to keep their men and machinery ready including tents, sand bags, ropes, boats and helicopters, life jackets besides stretchers, emergency lights for carrying out rescue operations.The DC called for maintaining close coordination among the departments and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) for quick response to the situation emerging due to heavy rains and other eventualities.  The meeting discussed in detail the precautionary measures to be taken in the flood prone areas particularly along River Devak, Basantar flood channels and numerous local nallahs.The DC directed concerned officers for identification of educational institutions, Panchayat Ghars and community halls to accommodate evacuated people if required.
