Over 30,000 to 40,000 unauthorised houses in Goa, including those on government land, will be regularised as a "one-time measure of relief", Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said in his budget speech Wednesday."This measure is for such occupants who are either owners or co-owners or holding any other occupancy rights over the said house or are having an irrevocable NOC from the owner," he said, adding that the cut-off date for such structures was February 28 this year. The regularisation would come at a one-time fee/penalty for the home owner, he said.

"My government proposes to bring about regulations to regularise the houses constructed without due authority on payment of such fees, taxes, penalties and other charges, which will be determined as part of the regulations," Parrikar said, adding that nearly 30,000 to 40,000 owners of unauthorised homes would be able to utilise this window."This measure will also be applicable for houses situated on government lands," he said. The chief minister also said the Goa government would earn about Rs.100 crore from the regularisation process due to the fees/penalties levied.
