DDC inaugurates Media Workshop ‘Vartalap’ at Reasi

Press Information Bureau, Government of India, Jammu in collaboration with District Information Center organized a media workshop titled 'VARTALAP '.The event was aimed at to act as a direct interface between PIB’s Regional branch offices and the Journalists working at district and sub-district levels.The Workshop is part of PIB’s media outreach strategy with the aim of establishing direct contact with working journalists besides ensuring effective communication and dissemination of information regarding government policies and programmes. District Development Commissioner, Ravinder Kumar, who was chief guest on the occasion, had a detailed interactive session with journalist fraternity from Katra, Reasi and Pouni. He sought feedback from these journalists on various matters. He said the Journalists play a significant role in the process of establishing a direct two-way communication process between the administration and the citizens.

He urged upon media persons to focus on constructive and objective reporting to present a true picture of happenings. The proceedings of the workshop were conducted by Sunil Koul, Media and Communication Officer Incharge PIB Jammu, who stressed upon the need to give preference to proactive development journalism in the region  so that people at grassroots can be made aware about the schemes being implemented by central and state governments.A lecture on GST was also delivered by Assistant Professor Mohammad Ashraf who explained the salient features and overall status of this new tax regime for public welfare.Later, a yoga session was held on the occasion.Large number of working journalists from the districts participated in the event who were sensitized about their role in highlighting local issues and making people aware about the welfare and development schemes of the government.Among others SSP Tahir Bhat, District Information Officer Rajinder Singh and Former Media Officer, Vijay Kumar Mangotra were the experts who spoke at the workshop.
