Markfed opens ‘Virsa Gram’ for promotion and sale of rural products

With a view to promote of marketing of house hold items, Markfed has setup a 'Virsa Gram' here at Sector 22, Chandigarh where products prepared by self-help groups from various districts of Punjab will be displayed and offered for sale.Disclosing this here today a spokesman of Markfed said this store was today inaugurated by Rajat Aggarwal Registrar Co-operative Societies Punjab. On its inauguration he appreciated the supportive initiative of this marketing cooperative federation for providing space to the rural folks in the capital of State where these self-help groups (SHGs) could display and sold their products.

Aggarwal further informed that this tie-up with SHGs would be made for merchandise of rural products during major events of Punjab like Maghi Mela, Vaisakhi (Talwandi Sabo), Rakhar Punya (Baba Bakala), Chhapaar Mela (Mandi Ahmedgarh), Jor Mel (Sri Fathegarh Sahib) and Hola Mohalla (Shri Anandpur Sahib). In addition to this more organizations like CII, PHD chamber of commerce and ASSOCHAM would be approached to provide space for the purposes in their events.On the occasion Arshdeep Singh Thind M.D. Markfed disclosed that promotion of marketing of house hold items of SHGs would be given priority and the same facilities also be provided in the 'Markfed Bazaar' setup by this cooperative federation in other cities like Amritsar, Ludhiana and Jalandhar.Mentionably, edible products like Pickles, Murabba, Juices, Bakery and Phulkari items along with Punjabi Jutti from about 10 SHGs would be available for sale daily except Monday.
