Dr. Surendra Poonia VSM an international award-winning sportsman in power lifting and a Limca book Record holder was the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the 12th Annual Athletic Meet.Bharat of Applied Science and Mehakmeet students of Chandigarh College of Pharmacy won the Best Athlete 2017 title during the 12th Annual Athletic Meet at Chandigarh Group of Colleges. The 2-day 12th Annual Athletic Meet 2017 was inaugurated by Balbir Singh Senior, Arjun awardee, three times Olympic gold medalist in hockey. The event ended with a colorful closing ceremony at Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran Campus where the winners were awarded with medals by Major Dr. Surendra Poonia VSM an international award-winning sportsman in power lifting, a Limca book record holder.Team Chandigarh Business School, CGC won over all gold in 4x400 m (Girls) relay race category.Jasman Singh, Mechanical Engineering and Divya, Applied Science bagged gold in 1500m Race boys and girls respectively, Mehakmeet, Chandigarh College of Pharmacy and Inderbir Singh, Mechanical Engineering won gold in 800m race. 

While Shweta Bharti ECE won the 400m race and Deepak Kumar won the 100m race.Saurabh Phull, CEC Mechanical won Gold in Discus Throw (Boys) while Harleen Kaur, COE Applied Science won Gold in the Girls category of the Discus Throw event. In a tight finish, Manjot Kaur from Chandigarh Engineering College claimed Gold medal in Shortput (Girls) while Saurabh Phull won Gold in Boys event. Harmanpreet, CGC, Computer Science Engineering, won Long Jump in the Boys category event while Mehak Meet from Chandigarh College of Pharmacy won in the Girls category. Javelin Throw which was introduced for the 1st time in the University Athletic Meet was won by Tanya, Bio Tech in the Girls category respectively.  Bharat CEC Applied Science and Harleen Ahuja COE CSE won gold in Triple Jump Boys and Girls respectively.While awarding medals to the winners, Major Dr. Surendra Poonia VSM an international award-winning sportsman in power lifting and a Limca book record holder, said “The struggle and the training of an athlete starts in the childhood, following his passion he reaches the playground in his school and college. With the right amount of direction and focus he reaches to a pinnacle by competing nationally and internationally. I’d like to ask all you young athletes to follow your passion and stay focused and determined. As nothing but hard work is the key to walk up the stairs of success.”
