The Department of Nursing Administration of SKIMS today celebrated the International Nurses Day in the SKIMS Auditorium. The practicing Nurses and Nursing Administrators, Faculty of Bibi Haleema College of Nursing Technological Science and College of Nursing, SKIMS actively participated in large numbers in the today’s function.On this occasion the Director SKIMS, Prof. A G Ahangar paid rich tributes to the founder of nursing practice i.e. Florence Nightingale. He also emphasized that the nurses should follow her foot-steps. On this occasion the Medical Superintendent, Prof. Syed Amin Tabish, in his address said that the nurses form a large diverse and important part of health work force, and nurses are highly valued by the whole community. He also said that the nurses are at the front line of the health in cities, towns and far flung areas. Nurses play a key role in all the medical institutions. Nurses bring new life in to the world, care tirelessly for the sick and injured. He also said that the Nursing is based on the effectiveness of communication of the quality of the patient’s safety. Nurses make a significant impact on the healthcare using their initiative and compassion.

Prof. Syed Amin Tabish also said that the SKIMS Nursing has a proud history and is a massive asset that the SKIMS intends to strengthen.The Dean of the Medical Faculty Prof. Altaf R Kirmani paid rich tribute to the Florence nightingale and highlighted the achievement of the SKIMS regarding Nursing education.Dr. Farooq A Jan, Incharge Nursing Administration paid glowing tribute to Ms. Florence nightingale The welcome address was presented by Mrs. Shagufta Parveen, Incharge Nursing Administration. A vote of thanks was presented by Zahida Amin. Rehana Akhter, Ishrat, Roohi were the Anchors of the programme. There were many important academic activities spread over the whole day.The seminar on the theme “Nurses: a voice to lead” was held on the occasion and prizes were distributed among the first three position holders. The quiz on the General Knowledge in Nursing Care was also held at the three position holders were awarded on the occasion. There was also panel discussion on the issues and challenges in nursing, in which experts from the Nursing profession participated and first three position holders were given prizes.Dr. G.H.Yatoo, Khalida Jabeen were the judges to select the best presentations. In the end valedictory function was held in which the Chief Guest Prof. Syed Amin Tabish distributed prizes among the position holders and members of the Organizing Committee. (KNS)
