The Jammu and Kashmir Nurses Association Kashmir (JKNAK) Friday observed the International Nurses Day as black day in Kashmir, saying that the failure of successive regimes in fulfilling their demands has resulted in the immense hardships to them. The association here in Srinagar also staged protest on this day to press the government over their demands. The members of the association wearing white aprons were holding banners and placards reading their demands.Talking to KNS, Parveen Khan, president of the association said that the government has failed to fulfil their demands from past 30 years. “Despite the rules set by the government that the nurse should be promoted after every five years, we (nurses) have not been promoted from past 20-30 years.”

The government apathy towards the nurses working different hospitals have been neglected so far by the successive regimes, which has been resulted in immense hardships to them, she said. She said that despite the fact that the rush of patients in the hospitals is increasing with each passing day, the authorities here have failed to increase the nurses so that the rush of the patients could be tacked in an ease manner.“Under such circumstances, how is it possible to celebrate the International Nurses Day? We are being forced to observe the day as clack day in the Valley,” she added. However, the protesting nurses later dispersed peacefully. (KNS)
