Skill Development Centers To Play A Key Role In Fulfilling Promise Of One Job Per Family : Charanjit Singh Channi

Punjab to encourage big industrial houses to set up practical labs in government technical institutes & Skill Centres in the state

The Skill Development Centers would play a key role to fulfill the pre poll promise of Captain Amarinder Singh led government to provide one job per family. Stating this after his four day visit to the Centurion University of  Technology & Management in Odisha, the Punjab Technical Education Minister,  Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi has directed the Technical Education department officials  to prepare a blue print  for necessary technical advancements in the skill centers of Punjab.He was very impressed to witness the Cafe Coffee Day lab helping in etiquette development for students, especially providing training to deaf and dumb students.  The Minister said that students are honing their skills with practical and hands on approach in welding and furniture labs and further said that this practice would also be started in Punjab.  He interacted with the various students working in sponsored engineering labs. Mr. Channi showed keen interest in  the industry sponsored projects  which  include the automobile labs set up by Ashok Leyland, Yamaha, Hyundai, Schyneider electric, Godrej and BEML etc.Mr. Channi also visited one more venture of this University, called Urban Micro Business Centre which is a concept for an integrated approach to livelihood, skill and entrepreneurship with sustainable ideas that empower urban slum dwellers.

Mr. Channi desired   that this venture be replicated   in Punjab so that young manpower in Punjab state could be trained in self employment and industry oriented courses. As Centurion University has also offshore campus in Australia, tie up this would be beneficial for the Punjab students willing to settle abroad.r. Channi alongwith other senior officials of the technical education department visited Odisha to study the advancement in skill development sector.He visited two Campuses of Centurion University of Technology & Management . First one at Jatni, near Bhubaneswar and another in the heart of tribal belt, at Paralakhemundi in Gajapati District  Centurion University is a multi-sector, private state university with main emphasis on Skill Development of  rural as well as urban masses. Mr. Channi held marathon meetings with Mr. Mukti Mishra, President of Centurion University which actively works in the field of sustainable community development through its various social responsibility initiatives.He was accompanied by Mr. K.S.Pannu,IAS Secretary ,Technical Education cum Mission Director, Punjab Skill Development Mission, Mrs. Daljit Kaur & Mohanbir Singh both  Additional Directors and Maninder Pal Singh, Dy. Drector,  Technical Education & Industrial Training, Punjab.
