Three army men, including a senior officer and two militants were Thursday killed after militants attacked on an army garrison in Panzgam village of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, army said.A civilian identified as Muhammad Yousuf Bhat was also killed when the locals were demanding bodies of the two slain militants.Defense spokesman, Colonial Rajesh Kalia told KNS that two militants were killed after they opened fire on an Army garrison in the wee hours today at Panzgam village.He said that three Army men including a senior officer were also killed in the attack.Sources said that in the wee hours today, the militants hurled grenades and opened indiscriminate fire on the Army personnel in the Army garrison at Panzgam village, which resulted in the injuries to at least five Army personnel “The injured troopers were airlifted to the Base Hospital for specialized treatment,” they said, adding that “three among the injured soldiers including a senior officer succumbed to their injuries.”Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, G M Dar told KNS that a civilian identified as Muhammad Yousuf Bhat, resident of Panzgam area was killed during protests.The locals according to the witnesses took to streets in Panzgam village to demand the bodies of the slain militants.However, forces deployed in the village used tear gas to disperse them, triggering clashes.The forces also opened fire during the clashes which resulted in the killing of a local, Muhammad Yousuf Bhat and the injuries to scores of locals.
