Unscheduled power cuts irk Kupwara residents

Inhabitants of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district are up in arms against the Power Development Department (PDD) for ‘failing to provide adequate power supply in their area from past several weeks’.According to KNS correspondent, Waseem Majnoon Mir, the residents of Kupwara town and its outskirts said, “The Department doesn’t adhere to the power schedule due to which the students preparing for examination are facing hardships. “When PDD installed meters in our areas we were told that we would get power supply round the clock, but the promises done with the resident’s falls flat on the ground,” they said.The situation in un-metered and remote villages of Kupwara, Langate, Handwara, Kralpora,Trehgam, Hayhama and Lolab is no different. Many remote villages, including Badkoot, Rajpora, Kalmoona, Hafrada, Rangward, Marseri, Shalal and Sudal are facing acute power shortage. In Drugmulla, vodhpora, Muhgalpora, power supplied from Arampora grid station is disrupted after every half an hour. “PDD resorts to continuous power cuts,” locals said.Meanwhile, the residents of Dewar, Lalpora, Dardpora, Hayapora, Thandusa and Takiopora also complained of unscheduled power cuts. The residents later appealed the higher ups to redress their genuine grievances at earliest so that the people here could feel a sigh of relief. (KNS)
