Govt. to promote sports culture in the State-Chief Minister

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh presided over the prize distribution function of Rajkumar Brijender Singh Memorial Cricket Championship at Chamba today. Speaking on the occasion, Virbhadra Singh said that Rajkumar Brijender Singh loved cricket and himself was a good cricket and distinguished personality. The championship was being organized in his memory for the last eight years. He expressed happiness that cricket and other sports were gaining popularity in the State adding that State Government was providing adequate assistance for the promotion of sports in the State. The Chief Minister said that Government would ensure proper conservation of all the heritage buildings of the Chamba town including Raj Palace. He announced Rs. one lakh to the Rajkumar Brijender Singh Memorial Cricket Club and Rs. 10,000 each to the students of St. Stephan and DAV Schools for presenting colourful cultural programme.  Virbhadra Singh also distributed prizes to the winners of the championship. 

Smt. Asha Kumari, MLA and President, Rajkumar Brijender Singh Memorial Cricket Club  welcomed the Chief Minister and thanked him for sparing his valuable time to attend the prize distribution function. She requested the Chief Minister for providing financial assistance to open Cricket Coaching Academy at Chamba. Shri Rajiv Sehgal, Organising Secretary of the Club presented the report of the Club and informed that as many as 70 teams of district Chamba participated in the tournament. Shri Chander Kumar, former MP, Shri Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Chairman, State Pollution Control Board, Shri Surender Bhardwaj, District Congress President, Shri Pawan Nayyar, HPCC Secretary, Shri Kewal Singh Pathania, Vice Chairman, State Forest Development Corporation, Shri Neeraj Nayyar, Chairman, APMC, Chamba and Shri Yoginder Sharma, Chamba Block Congress President. Shri Luxmi Dutt Sharma, ex-President Chamba Nagar Parishad, Shri Dildar Ali Bhatt, Chairman, Haj Committee, and other prominent person of the area were present on the occasion.
