Pays surprise visit to SDH Akhnoor; Takes stock of functioning

The ambitious Government Ayurvedic College project coming up at an estimated cost of Rs. 25.80 crore at Sangani-Akhnoor is at the final stage and likely to be accomplished during the current financial year. Till date an amount of Rs. 19 crore stands incurred on various works.The information to this effect was given to the Minister for Health & Medical Education, Bali Bhagat during his visit to Akhnoor, where he had gone to take stock of the on-going health projects.Commissioner/Secretary Health & Medical Education, Dr Mandeep K Bhandari and Block Medical Officer, Akhnoor, Dr Uttam Singh Sambyal also accompanied the Minister.During the tour, the Minister also reviewed the status of under construction building of Sub-District Hospital on Jourian road, Akhnoor. He was informed that an amount of Rs. 13 crore stands released/spent against a total project cost of Rs. 32 crore. The executive agency was directed to speed up the pace and accomplish the project in a time bound manner. The Minister assured to provide the remaining funds soon.The Minister also inspected the newly constructed building of ANMT School at village Sangani, where the paramedical classes are likely to be commenced from this academic session. He issued instructions to the concerned to complete all the necessary formalities, including construction of boundary wall, water connection, electricity, laying furniture and furnishing articles, lab equipments and other essential infrastructure required for smooth functioning of the institutions.

Earlier, the Minister paid surprise visit to Sub-District Hospital, Akhnoor and took stock of its functioning. He inspected various wards, units and interacted with the doctors, patients and attendants. He took detailed brief from the Block Medical Officer regarding the facilities, flow of patients, rate of referral to tertiary care institutions, staff position, blood bank, lab facilities, sanitation etc. He expressed satisfaction over the facilities and issued specific instructions to the administration to further streamline its functioning to cater to the rush of patients more efficiently.He also called for paying focused attention to sanitation part, improvement in theater, Gynae ward. He directed for curbing the practice of un-necessary referral of patients to Jammu hospitals, adding that only serious cases shall be referred and doctors must record the history of the patients before being referred.In view of the vast catchment area and huge flow of patients, the Minister said that Government will soon establish a full-fledged Blood Bank with all modern facilities at SDH, Akhnoor. He was informed that majority of cases, especially suffering from Gynae related issues are being referred to Jammu in absence of Blood Bank.
