A day after a policeman was killed in a grenade attack in Srinagar’s Nowhatta, police Monday said that it will devise a strategy to deal with attacks on its force, insisting that nothing will come out of the bloodshed.“Our Jawans have been facing bullets also from behind the pelting mob. Grenade lobbing is also part of that greater design. We will devise a strategy to deal with it and I am sure with our experience we will be able to handle it,” Director General of Police, Dr S. P Vaid told reporters here after wreath laying ceremony of the cop killed in the grenade attack.Militants on Sunday evening lobbed a grenade on police and CRPF in Nowhatta here when the forces were withdrawing after their day’s deployment.One policeman, identified as 27-year-old Shamim Ahmad of Gurez in Bandipora district was killed, while 11 other forces personnel, including 3 CRPF and 8 policemen, were injured in the attack.“Last year also situation deteriorated and such attacks took place. Nothing positive emerges from such a bad situation and attacks. Its outcome is only bloodshed and destruction,” Vaid said.While sympathizing with the families of the slain cop and the injured, the police chief said that: “My heart goes to the families who lost their lives during militant attacks.” (KNS)
