Three army men injured in militant ambush at JVC

On the eve of visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Udhampur in Jammu Division where he is scheduled to inaugurate Chennani-Nashri Tunnel, militants on Saturday ambushed an army convoy at JVC in Bemina area along Bypass on Srinagar outskirts, resulting in injuries to three soldiers.An official said that militants, believed to be three in number, ambushed army convoy which was coming from Baramulla district of north Kashmir. The militants deflated the tyres of a vehicle part of army convoy, fired on troopers from several sides, the official said, adding that three soldiers sustained injuries and they were immediately shifted to hospital for treatment.Soon after the attack, large posse of police, SOG, CRPF and army rushed to the spot and cordoned off entire area. The forces started searches in the nearby residential areas while the locals accused them of going berserk and damaging property. Reports said that the locals staged a protest and pelted stones on the forces men.Meanwhile, militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen claimed responsibility for the attack and said it was carried out against Modi’s visit. The Hizb claimed that forces suffered fatalities in the attack. However, officials denied the claim. Soon after the attack, the security across the Srinagar was beefed up and checkpoints were erected for frisking.(GNS)
