Abdul Gani Kohli inspects poultry Cattle Breeding and Research Farm Belicharana

Unit records Rs 1 cr sale, produced 2.81 lakh chicks this year

The Government Poultry farm Belicharana has recorded Rs 1 crore sale against day old chick produced at the farm during the current financial year.The farm has produced over 2.81 lakh day old chicks this year and is expected to produce 20000 more by end of this fiscal. Against its sale the farm has realized revenue of Rs 1 crore. The farm has also produced 5.35 lakh hatch eggs and provided to the farmers during this fiscal.The information was given to the Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries Abdul Gani Kohli during his visit to the mega farm of Jammu province.Commissioner Secretary Animal & Sheep Husbandry, R K Bhagat, Director Animal Husbandry Jammu were among senior officers accompanied the Minister during the visit.The Minister went around the farm and inspected the chick and grower cage system, Feed Plant and Central Cattle Breeding and Research farm. Interacting with the officials, he said there is huge employment potential in the sectors like dairy, poultry and sheep in the State. 

The Minister underscored the need for paying more attention towards the poultry sector adding this sector promises economic uplift of rural masses. He said to achieve desired results the schemes  meant for the development of poultry, sheep and cattle development should be implemented effectively ,which in turn not only increase the mutton, milk and poultry but also enhance the income of farmers.The Minister stressed the need to encourage the unemployed educated youth to take up poultry, cattle and sheep farming in view of huge their potential.   He called for creating mass awareness about the benefits and incentives being provided under poultry development schemes.Kohli enjoined upon the functionaries of the department to work with devotion and dedication for the development of the sector and provide all necessary facilities besides modern technical know-how to the unit holders. He also stressed for holding more and more awareness camps in rural areas to encourage the people for setting up new poultry and dairy units. He said the goal of the department should be to make state   self sufficient in poultry, meat and milk production. Earlier the Minister during his inspection of Central Cattle Breeding and Research farm asked the functionaries to introduce more varieties of high breed cows to increase the milk production in the state.
