ICSC observes World Arbor Day

To generate awareness on the importance of plantation and to encourage more and more people to plant trees, a function was held here at Islamia College of Science & Commerce (ICSC) to observe World Arbor Day.As many as 160 saplings of different varieties were planted during the programme which was held in collaboration with J&K Bank.Principal ISCS Prof. (Dr.) G M Tibet Baqal, Vice President J&K Bank Manzoor Hussain, Cluster Head J&K Bank, Students of the College and other concerned were present on the occasion.Prof. Baqal while highlighting the importance of the Day said that college campus has some unique plants, which were planted about 90 years ago prominent among them Lebanon cedar, national plant of  Lebanon and national tree of Japan.

Other speakers also highlighted the significance of plantation drive and its positive effects on the environment.Director, Social Forestry, while highlighting the activities of the Department, laid stress on collective efforts for environmental protection by planting trees to enhance the green cover.It was given out that under various schemes the Department of Social Forestry is planting six lakh plant saplings over an area of 445 hectares this year.On the occasion, a debate was organized in which students from various schools participated. Later, the students were awarded trophies and certificates for their outstanding performances in the debate and other programs. (GNS)
