Terming the reports about his resignation as Hurriyat (G) General Secretary baseless, senior separatist leader and Chairman Democratic Freedom Party Shabir Ahmed Shah Tuesday said that he has always pitched for a strong and robust Hurriyat and even today he has been appealing all the separatist leaders to join Syed Ali Geelani led Hurriyat Conference in the interest of Kashmir Freedom Struggle. Please don’t try to twist the facts. The reality is that i have not been able to do justice with the ‘position’ that Hurriyat G had assigned to me. The post of General Secretary is very important and to do justice with this post, one needs free movement. Authorities have crippled my wings and from past three and a half years, I was able to visit a place only twice. On February 20 last month, I had written to Syed Ali Geelani to appoint any leader as General Secretary who could roam freely. It is incorrect to say that I have resigned. I just wanted a person to be the General Secretary who could do justice and play a key role in making Hurriyat strong.

Due to my continuous incarceration, I am unable to manage the affairs,” Shabir Ahmed Shah told news agency CNS and added that those trying to raise fingers on his conviction and integrity are not doing any service to this oppressed nation.Shabir Ahmed Shah said that he is a true soldier of Hurriyat and his only desire is to make Hurriyat an institution, a bring common men closer to it. “My conscience mocks at me for holding the position of General Secretary and still not performing any duties. It is just because of my continuous detention. I have been able to meet Geelani Sahab only once from past two years. I didn’t submit my resignation but has only requested Geelani Sahab to appoint any person as General Secretary who could do justice. It’s wrong to say that I resigned from the post,” Shah said.Pertinently, Shabir Ahmed Shah, who has served more than 25 years’ imprisonment, was appointed as General Secretary in 2015 and since then according to Shah he was unable to participate in a single meeting due to his continuous detention.
