Farooq, Nazir file nomination papers for Lok Sabha by-polls

Candidates of rival National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Farooq Abdullah and Nazir Ahmad, for upcoming bye-elections on Srinagar Lok Sabha seat filed their nomination papers on Monday.According to GNS correspondent, Farooq – who is NC candidate for bye-elections – accompanied by his party leaders and Congress leaders, his poll ally, filed the papers at the office of Returning Officer in summer capital. Those who were accompanying the NC president include State Congress Chief GA Mir, senior Congress leader Tariq Hamid Karra, NC working president Omar Abdullah and NC General Ali Muhammad Sagar.In 2014 parliamentary polls, Karra fought and won against Farooq Abdullah on PDP ticket. Citing "brutalities" on masses during 2016 uprising, Karra resigned from PDP as well as Lok Sabha and later joined Congress in New Delhi in presence of its top leadership.PDP's Nazir Khan, who lost 2014 elections to Omar Abdullah from Beerwah assembly segment, also filed his nomination papers before Returning Officer Dr Farooq Lone at DC office Srinagar. Nazir was accompanied by top PDP leaders including Muzzafar Beigh and Imran Raza Ansari.Talking to media persons, Nazir who left Congress recently and was welcomed into PDP by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, said Farooq Abdullah is "discredited politician". However he didn't elaborate his remark and thanked PDP leadership for providing him ticket to contest Lok Sabha bye election. Srinagar is going for polls on April 12.(GNS)
