DDC inaugurates workshop on Labour laws

District Development Commissioner, Mohammad Aijaz, inaugurated a one day awareness camp cum workshop on labour laws and welfare schemes organized by the Labour and Employment Department here today.ACD, Jahangir Khandey, Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC), Ghanshyam Basotra, prominent citizens, representatives of construction agencies and large number of construction workers attended the programme.Speaking on the occasion, DDC said that the programme will generate awareness among the labourers and the employers with regard to their rights and responsibilities. He said the Labour Laws are in place to protect rights of working class and to ensure peaceful and comfortable working atmosphere for the labourers. He appreciated the role of labours in infrastructural development of nation. He asked the labour community to come forward for availing benefits of different schemes launched by the department for their welfare. He said that department is committed for providing social security and justice to every labour class under labour laws.  He directed the labour department to remain vigilant to stop the practice of child labour besides ensuring their schooling through concerned department.ALC highlighted the activities carried out by the Department for welfare of construction workers besides achievements registered during the current year. Other speakers also threw light on process of registration with Labour Department for workers and its benefits, constitutional rights, child labour, gratuity, payment of wages, compensation under different Labour Laws and other related issues.
