DDC Kulgam kick-starts plantation drive

District Development Commissioner Kulgam, Showkat Aijaz Bhat, today inaugurated plantation drive-2017 in the district by planting conifer saplings at Degree College Kilam premises.It was given out that in the three-week long drive, around 2.8 lakh saplings of different varieties including Chinars , Conifers, Broad leaved plants etc will be planted on the identified spots across the district.Principal GDC Kilam, BMO Qazigund, besides a good number of the College students were present on the occasion.Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that such initiatives will be helpful in afforestation of barren land in the district. He urged the people especially the students to actively participate in the plantation drive by planting one sapling each at their own level. He said around 100 Education institutions will be covered under the plantation programme.The DDC impressed upon the officials to make concerted efforts so as to improve the green cover in the district which shall help in restoring and preserving ecological balance.Earlier, the District Development Commissioner planted chinar saplings in the DC office complex Park here.
