A meeting of the Committee on Estimates of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was held under the Chairmanship of MLA, Mushtaq Ahmed Shah here today to review the functioning of Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department (FCS&CA).Threadbare discussions were held on working of the department especially with regard to the ration supply through the Public Distribution System (PDS). The Committee members sought details of the ration scale including   Atta, Sugar, Rice, K-Oil being provided to the people under different categories and schemes. The members also reviewed the monitoring system put in place by the department to ensure that the food grain reach to the people in time.The Committee asked to concerned officers of the department to streamline the distribution of LPG to the BPL families under Ujwala scheme and ensure that the benefits reach to the genuine and eligible people.Legislators, Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, Abdul Majid Padder, Ishfaq Ahmed Sheikh, Jeevan Lal, Daleep Parihar and Neelam Langeh were also present in the meeting and gave their suggestions regarding the functioning of the department and stressed for proper monitoring of the schemes being executed by the Department.

The Committee also asked the concerned to open LPG gas agencies in uncovered areas to provide the supply to all consumers at their doorsteps.Secretary, FCS&CA Shafiq Ahmed Raina briefed the Committee about the activities of the department. He said the department is distributing the PDS food grains/K.oil to all categories of rationed population as per the prescribed scales and  notified prices through a network of 5970 Ration Depots/Fair Price Shops and 4096 K.oil Depots.He also briefed the Committee about implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA) and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Food Entitlement Scheme (MMFES). It was informed that the State Government has introduced MMFES in the state from 1st   July 2016 and under it additional 5 Kgs of food grain is provided per soul to bonafide beneficiaries having family size of 1 to 6 members over and above the NFSA, subject to a maximum of 35 Kg per family per month.Director, FCS&CA Kashmir Tasaduq Jeelani and Director, FCS&CA Jammu G S Chib also briefed the Committee about the schemes being implemented by the department and its proper implementation in both the divisions.Ssenior officers and officials of FCS&CA department and Assembly Secretariat were also present in the meeting.
