Community disaster preparedness workshop held in Srinagar

A day-long workshop on disaster preparedness organized by Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRRR) and Tourism Department in collaboration with State Disaster Response Force, Civil Defence and District Red Cross Society was held at Nigeen Club today.More than 75 volunteers, including 15 women, belonging to different districts and professions, participated in the training.The workshop was inaugurated by Director Tourism Kashmir, Mahmood Ahmed Shah, in presence of Director Disaster Management, General Secretary State Red Cross Society, Commandant SDRF 1st Battalion.During the workshop, participants were imparted hands-on training in Search and Rescue, Fire-fighting and First Aid. A mock drill was also held on the occasion.Meanwhile, Power Development Department with support from Disaster Management held training for lineman and workers of Electric Department. They were trained to adhere to safety measures while handling electric wires. It was given out that training of the electricians and workers will be conducted every Saturday in the PDD office at Bemina, Srinagar.
