Unknown gunmen kills former NC Sarpanch in South Kashmir

Former National Conference Sarpanch and maternal uncle of LeT slain militant from Kakapora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Monday morning.The deceased has been identified as Fayaz Ahmed Dar son of Abdul Khaliq Dar, a resident of Kakapora Pulwama.Family members of the deceased former Sarpanch told news agency CNS that a couple of armed men alighted from a Sumo vehicle during wee hours of Monday and entered their house. “The armed men directed Fayaz Ahmed to accompany him. He was bundled into the Sumo and later on we were informed that his bullet riddled body has been recovered from a secluded place at Chewa Kalan village of the district.”A top police official said that Ahmad was picked up by militants from his home early Monday morning and later killed in Chewa Kalan village. He said that a formal murder case has been registered and the gunmen responsible for the act have been identified. 

“All efforts are on to nab the killers,” he said.A National Conference worker, Fayaz Ahmed Dar had participated in Panchayat Elections conducted in the State during Omar Abdullah Government. Five months ago, he had resigned in public, when his nephew Rayees Ahmed Dar, an M.Tech student and a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant was killed in a brief encounter at Begumbagh Kakapora. He had also tendered apology to the people on the Chahrum of his nephew and had disassociated himself from National Conference.Meanwhile, Police in a handout said that they recovered a body at Chew Kalan area in Pulwama district. The body was later on identified as of Fayaz Ahmad son of Abdul Khaliq resident of Kakapora. He was kidnapped by gunmen from his house early Monday morning, and later shot dead.“Police has registered FIR and started investigations into his killing. Police have also identified the gunmen involved in this crime and efforts are on to nab the killers. (CNS)
