Div Com visits new stone quarry sites at Zewan

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, Thursday visited new stone quarry sites at Shaliguf and Zewan Bala in Srinagar to take stock of rehabilitation measures for stone quarry workers of Athwajan and Panthachowk.Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone, Joint Director Geology & Mining, SP city (west), Tehsildar Panthachowk, Officials of Environment and Police Departments and other concerned accompanied the Divisional Commissioner.The Divisional Commissioner was briefed in detail about the rehabilitation plan for the stone quarry workers of Athwajan and Panthachowk after ban was imposed by the State Government on quarrying works there. It was said that in South Srinagar two sites have been identified by the Revenue Department at Shaliguf with 9.55 hectares and Zewan Bala with 16.40 hectares from the State land for their rehabilitation.On the occasion, the Div Com directed the officials of Geology & Mining Department to investigate the quality of these sites including stones there, besides prepare a Mining plan and submit the same within 15 days.He also directed the officials of Environment Department to make a comprehensive environment plan of these sites and submit them within fortnight so that quarrying can be started immediately by these affected workers.During the visit, representatives from Quarry Associations apprised the Divisional Commissioner about issues confronting them. The Div Com assured them of early redressal of their all their genuine concerns.
