Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura reviews performance of Agriculture Deptt in Udhampur

Minister stresses promotion of Integrated Farming, optimal use of land resources

Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura today asked for promotion of Integrated Farming to make agriculture a profitable  activity.He asked the agriculture department to establish Integrated Farming Units in each village to realize maximum return from the agriculture land.The Minister was speaking at a meeting convened to review the implementation of state and centrally sponsored schemes, preparation for next Kharief season and performance of the Agriculture Department in Udhampur district.The Minister said that Udhampur district, with diverse agro-climatic conditions, has huge potential for cash crops in agriculture and its allied activities. “The need of the hour is innovation to increase crop productivity” he said and asked   the concerned officers to make optimum use of the available land and other resources. Government has regularized Rehbar-e-Zirat in one go which is a big step forward to catapult the agriculture sector by bringing the professionally trained workforce to the field,” he said.Mr Hanjura asked the officers of Agriculture department to conduct frequent field visits in their respective areas and aware farmers about the latest techniques at their doorstep. He also instructed the Director Agriculture Jammu to convene review meeting after every three months in each district to resolve the issues and genuine problems faced by farmers with regard to the agriculture activities. He also asked the Director to encourage the farmers to go for organic farming and mentioned Muttal Village of Udhampur which has made a big headway in this regard.

“The development of the farming community is must for development of State so it is our prime duty to work with coordination” he asserted.Taking stock of distribution of hybrid seeds in the district, it was informed that the Department has distributed 1465 quintals of Maize, 211.17 quintals of Paddy, 408.38 quintals of Pulses, Oilseeds and Fodder during 2016-2017 Kharief season and 4358 quintals of Wheet, 1.35 quintals of Potato, 164.65 quintals of Pulses, Oilseeds and Fodder during Rabi season.Financial Commissioner, Agriculture Production Department, Pramod Kumar Jain directed the department to gear up their field functionaries and ensure timely availability of fertilizers and hybrid seeds to the farmers. He said that a Kharief Conference would be held in Jammu soon to discuss crucial agriculture issues confronting the state. He also called for promoting mushroom cultivation, apiculture and vegetable cultivation. He also asked the concerned to motivate the farmers of the remote areas for organic farming, which he said will help them in doubling their income.The Financial Commissioner also stressed on close coordination between SKAUST-Jammu and KVKs for conducting joint inspections and field visits to provide vital and timely information to the farmers for optimal crop yield. He also asked them to educate the farming community about the latest techniques.Mr Jain asked the concerned to prepare advance calendars and make these available at every Agriculture Office.Earlier, Director Agriculture Jammu gave a detailed resume of the agriculture activities in district Udhampur.Among others, District Development Commissioner, Udhampur Neeraj Kumar and other officers of Agriculture department were present in the meeting.Later, the Minister visited Mand East and took stock of Mushroom Unit established by Women Self Help Groups.
