SkillTrain app to train 2,500 people this year

With an aim to train 2,500 people this year with its blended learning model, vocational training company SkillTrain on Tuesday launched a new mobile app.SkillTrain, a brainchild of IT services and solutions provider Mphasis and social enterprise incubator Villgro, uses a blended model of video content and practical training to enable rural and urban youth to become employable or self-employed. "We believe that only a blend of technology in vocational training can help India achieve the dream of becoming a skilled nation," said B. Ganesh, Founder and CEO of SkillTrain. The mobile app will be available on all Android-based smartphones and offer courses in segments such as electronics, tailoring, plumbing, electrical repair and several other skill areas.Tom begin with, the app will offer five free courses in Hindi. SkillTrain plans to add at least 10 new courses over the next six months. While the video content and quizzes are free, the fee per practical session ranges between Rs 30-Rs 100, making it one of the most affordable models currently available. "With this app, we are excited to see the company's new way forward to reach more youth in low-resource communities and regions," added Maya Chandrasekaran, Practice leader - Education and Skills, Villgro.
