Hyderabad-based Win Vision Eye hospital successfully performed a rare and complicated cataract surgery with the help of Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS) technology. In this case, a 60-year-old patient who had lost sight in one eye earlier was affected with zonular dehiscence, where the pateint has weak support for the intraocular lens which is placed after the surgery. In this condition, there is a high risk of surgical mishaps that can break the zonules, the ligaments that support the lens of an eye, causing the lens to de-center or even fall into the back part of the eye.Many doctors had turned her away due to her critical condition, which had high risk of surgery going wrong and the patient going complete blind by losing her second eye as well.However, backed by the best in eye care technology, the challenge was accepted by Dr. Sreelakshmi, Cataract and Refractive Surgeon and Managing Director of Win Vision Hospital (the world’s first woman ophthalmologist to perform Femtosecond Laser-assisted Cataract Surgery) and Dr. Nitesh Narayan ( first surgeon to perform femto second laser enabled INTACS) Director Cornea Services, Cataract and Refractive Surgeon at the hospital.
