The ‘callous and insensitive’ approach of the administration have put people of Karnah Tehsil in frontier district Kupwara in great trouble as from past 15 days couple of dead bodies are lying near Chowkibal, while the administration as per locals has let down these mourners who are unable to take these dead bodies towards their destination. From past fortnight Karnah tehsil is cut off from the rest of the world due to massive accumulation of snow on the Sadhna and TP road. Couple of people hailing from different areas of Karnah tehsil breathed their last in Srinagar and Jammu and their bodies are lying at Chowkibal Kupwara. Locals from Karnah told news agency CNS that despite trying to attract the attention of the government over this humanitarian issue, nothing was done to take the dead bodies towards their destination. “A family arranged Rs 20,000 for some labourers to take the dead body of a woman Reshma Khan of Suliman Tangdar towards her Suliman Tangdar village, but the labourers could not move ahead from Sadhana road and brought the body back to Chowkibal,” they said.

“We are totally cutoff from the Kupwara district. There is no electricity, no water and medical facilities for the patients. Agitated people on Wednesday confronted Block Medical Officer Karnah for ignoring the ailing patients. BMO Karnah faced the wrath of the people when he tried to airlift some blue-eyed non-serious patients,” they said and added that only BSNL landline connections are working in the Tehsil.Tehsildar Nisar Ahmed Awan and SDM Karnah Bashir Ahmed Andrabi confirmed that people especially patients have been facing tremendous problems due to lack of connectivity. “Station House Officer Karnah Khurshid Ahmed Wani from South Kashmir did not attend the funeral of his close relative as the tehsil is totally cutoff. The inclement weather has been affecting air service too,” they said. When contacted, a district official said that all efforts are on to restore the connectivity. “It will take one or two days to connect Tangdar and Karnah with the rest of the district,” he said and added that if weather permits, dead bodies will be dispatched towards the destinations.
