Capt Amarinder Singh promises land lease at Re 1 for construction of Parshuram Bhawans in Punjab

The Congress government will provide land on lease at a cost of Rs. 1, on the lines of Himachal Pradesh, to the Brahmin community for the construction of Parshuram Bhawans in Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh announced on Wednesday. At a meeting with representatives of Punjab Brahman Sabha (Regd), the Punjab Congress president and chief ministerial nominee promised to look into all their demands on priority after coming to power. The Sabha representatives included Kulwant Rai Sharma, Rajinder Pal Sharma, Ghanshyam Das and Megh Raj Sharma. The delegation submitted an 8-point memorandum of their demands to the PPCC chief. Besides land for construction of Parshuram Bhawans, they demanded setting up a Brahman Sabha Welfare Board and opening of Sanskrit Vidyalayas, besides proper representation to Brahman community in the political setup and building a memorial dedicated to Bhagwan Parshuram in the state.Another demand of the Sabha included adequate facilities/reservation for the economically backward category of the Brahmans, as well as land on lease to the landless Brahmans in villages.Captain Amarinder assured that their demands would be sympathetically considered by his government.
