Academic curriculum being prepared after exhaustive consultation: Naeem Akhtar

Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar today informed the house that the academic curriculum is prepared by conducting workshops to decide the content.Replying to a question by Ajatshatru Singh, the Minister said subject experts from DIETs /SIEs/ Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools, experts from Universities, Cultural Academy and academic officers of different subjects are associated in the process of curriculum development.He said after preparation of textual material/contents, the same are placed before the Academic Committee of the JKBOSE for approval.He said the implementation / introduction of curriculum is made at the beginning of academic session.The Minister said the government would consider inclusion of more information in school books about the steps taken during Dogra rule for welfare and overall development of the State.The Minister said the updation of curriculum is a continuous process and the Education Department will recommend introduction of chapters in history books about the steps taken by the Dogra rulers which include making education compulsory and steps taken for the development of Horticulture, floriculture and augmentation of Irrigation network.

The Minister said that JKBOSE syllabus includes chapter/references on Dogra rule in the history books as also in Dogri textbooks of different classes.Legislators Ramesh Arora and Vikramaditya Singh asked supplementary questions on the main question.‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ not a benefit-oriented scheme: Asiea NaqashMinister of State for Social Welfare Asiea Naqash today informed the house that the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is a centrally sponsored scheme to generate awareness through mass campaign across the country about the declining trend in sex ratio and is not a benefit oriented scheme.Replying to a question by Showkat Hussain Ganaie in the upper house, the Minister said the objective of the scheme is to celebrate the girl child and encourage and promote her education. She said the objective of the scheme is to prevent gender biased sex-selective elimination, to ensure survival and protection of the girl child besides ensuring education and participation of girl child.Legislators Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo and Surinder Mohan Ambardar, Dr Shehnaz Ganaie and Zafar Iqbal Manhas raised supplementary queries to the main question.
