On the first death anniversary of the Pirbagh youth murdered last year, protests Saturday morning rocked the Airport Road here with people saying the “police has been shielding the murderers.” Eyewitnesses told CNS that amid chill, family members and relatives of Owais Bashir Malik, an engineering student who was murdered in January 2016 staged a protest demonstration against the police. The protesters carrying placards, banners and black flags raised high pitched anti-Police slogans. They accused police of shielding murderers and said that some ‘corrupt’ police officials used their influence to save the skin of real culprits. The protest march led to the massive traffic jam while protesters threatened that they will hit the roads on daily basis in case a fair investigation is not done and real culprits are not exposed.

Owais Bashir’s body was recovered from Humhama railway track in wee hours of January 2016. On the fateful day January 14, 2016, body of slain youth, Owais Bashir Malik son of Bashir Ahmad of Pirbagh, was found in the nearby Humhama locality. Owais had gone missing under mysterious circumstances two days ago. The locals said the police concocted a false story in the murder case only to shield the real killers. “We have enough evidence to prove that the story given by police to the media was far from reality and that police was saving the real killers as it would expose dirty underbelly of how police is hand in glove in such killings,” the local protesters said and  didn’t rule out direct involvement of some police officials in the matter.“How impossible it sounds that someone whom police calls a transgender gets my 6 ft tall and very healthy son and brings him down to the ground over railway track and kicks him repeatedly until death. The bruises, cuts and slits and mutilated body of my son reflected something else that police didn’t tell,” father of slain youth said.    The protesters said that police have concealed the facts to save the influential murderers.
