Unidentified gunman allegedly fired upon a cop, injuring him critically in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday.    Sources that a Special Operation Group man Nayeem Ahmed Bhat Belt Number 1278 was guarding the road in an armoured vehicle at Rajpora Chowk in Pulwama district when suspected militants fired upon him at point blank range. Reports said that two bullets hit the cop above heart. He was immediately rushed to District Hospital Pulwama where from he was referred to SKIMS for advanced treatment. Doctors at District Hospital Pulwama said that Bhat was brought in critical condition in the hospital.Reports said that suspected militants managed to escape shortly after the incident while SOG, CRPF and Army cordoned off the area and conducted search operation. However, no one was arrested during the search operation.

When contacted Superintendent of Police Pulwama Mr Rayees Ahmed Bhat told CNS the cop seems to have been injured in accidental fire. “It seems accidental fire,” he said.It was the second target attack in the district. A few days ago, militants fired upon a CRPF man at point blank range at Muran Chowk. The bullet hit in the back of the CRPF jawan injuring him critically.Meanwhile Government forces Friday launched a massive search operation in the north Kashmir district of Bandipora, sources said.They said troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation at Bangar Mohalla, Hajin, in Bandipora following a tip-off about the presence of militants.The entire area was sealed and forces launched the searches in the area, they said, adding that no one was arrested during the operation.
