Commissioner Secretary PDD reviews post-snowfall power scenario in Kashmir

Commissioner Secretary Power Development Department (PDD), Dheeraj Gupta, today convened a meeting to review post-snowfall power scenario in Kashmir Division.Development Commissioner (Power), Chief Engineer (System and Operations), Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers and other concerned attended the meeting.The meeting was told that local generation has reduced as such there is distress in the system and due to added increase in load during winters PDD is constrained to curtail the supply to ensure power to all areas.It was given out that concerted efforts are being made to streamline the power supply system across the State and various Centrally Sponsored and State sector schemes were being implemented to achieve results on the ground.On the occasion, the Commissioner Secretary appreciated the efforts put in by the employees of the Department during the recent snowfall.  He said over loading and illegal practices are the main cause of the erratic power supply. He directed the officers to act tough against violators and defaulters and asked them to devise a strategy to reduce power losses and to check pilferage of electricity. Gupta stressed the need to have a buffer stock of transformers, to ensure timely replacement of damaged transformers during winter. He also directed to make the enforcement wings more active and ensure random checking to curb the menace of illegal power connections.
