Road Safety Week observed in Kashmir

To stimulate community involvement in promoting road safety awareness and to disseminate information about traffic rules, various functions were held across Kashmir valley to observe 28th Road Safety Week.In Srinagar, Traffic Police in collaboration with RTO Kashmir organized an inaugural function today in which Deputy Commissioner; Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone was the chief guest. RTO Kashmir, SSP Traffic City Srinagar, senior district officers, NSS volunteers, representatives of various NGOs and other concerned attended the function.The Deputy Commissioner stressed on adherence of traffic rules and regulations and said that public cooperation is must to ensure safe and smooth flow of traffic in Srinagar city.He also flagged-off a car rally which passed through various parts of the city. The aim of the rally was to disseminate traffic awareness and education among the general public traffic norms.In Ganderbal, a rally was held today as a part of 'Road Safety Week', which was flagged by Deputy Commissioner Tariq Hussain Ganai in presence of SP Ganderbal, ARTO and other officers.The aim of the rally was to spread awareness about following traffic rules like putting on seat belts, avoiding overtaking, stopping use of mobile phones while driving, heeding to red signal and shunning unnecessary honking.In Baramulla, a function was held today under the theme ‘Your Safety Secures Your Family’.  Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Nasir Ahmad Naqash, JD Planning, ARTO and other concerned officers, besides a large gathering of persons affiliated with transport sector were present at the event.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC stressed for adopting necessary road safety measures for averting avoidable road accidents and loss of precious human lives. He also appealed people particularly driver fraternity to avoid rash and aggressive driving, and follow the traffic rules strictly.In Bandipora, an inaugural function organized by Motor Vehicle Department today was presided by Additional Deputy Commissioner Khursheed Ahmad Sanai, while as SSP Bandipora, ARTO, Transporters and general public participated in the function.The function was held with an aim to spread awareness among people, especially drivers about driving etiquettes and road safety rules and guidelines. Later, a sumo rally was flagged-off by the ADC which started from General Bus Stand Nusoo and went through various parts of Bandipora town.On the occasion, the ARTO said that two free medical camps will be organized at Sumbal and Bandipora during the week long activities, besides intensive checking of vehicles across the district will be conducted.In Budgam, a rally was flagged-off by Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Mir Altaf Ahmad to mark the inauguration of ‘Road Safety Week’.The DC said that without cooperation of people, traffic system cannot be managed effectively. He appealed people to follow traffic norms and avoid wrong parking.On the occasion, SSP Budgam stressed on avoiding use of mobile phones while driving and exhorted for putting on seat belts. In Shopian, a function was presided over by ADC, during which he stressed on need of inculcating awareness about traffic rules and guidelines for better road safety measures.He also flagged-off a car rally which passed through various areas of the town to mark the inaugural ceremony of ‘Road Safety Week’ in the district.
