Life remained paralyzed across Kashmir on the second day on Saturday. Accumulated snow in the interior roads and some parts of Srinagar continued to disrupt the vehicular and pedestrian movement while some areas continued to reel under darkness due of failure of Power Development Department in restoring the electricity. Almost whole Kashmir Valley including Srinagar city reeled under darkness whole Friday night while in some area’s electricity was restored on Saturday afternoon. The snowfall led to cancellation of all flights to and from Srinagar Airport and Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed for the second successive day.Meanwhile, Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed for the second continuous day. “There are little chances of road being thrown open on Sunday especially for passengers. If weather improves, we will try to clear the stranded vehicles on priority basis,” said a traffic official.Reports said that hundreds of vehicles are stranded on the highway on both sides of the tunnel and other places in Jammu and Srinagar.

All the flights to and from Srinagar Airport were cancelled for the second successive day due to bad weather.Official sources said that all flights scheduled to depart from here were cancelled due to poor visibility.“All 18 flights including two additional ones could not take off here due to weather conditions prevailing here,” he said and added that efforts are on to restore the air travel services.The private airline operators said passengers whose flights were cancelled would be given seats in the next scheduled flights subject to the availability of seats.“The seats available in the next flight would be given to the passengers whose flights were cancelled during these two days on first come first serve basis,” said a manager of private airlines.Director Meteorological Department Sonam Lotus told news agency CNS that weather has already improved and there will be significant improvement from Sunday morning. He added that the presence of heavy moisture in atmosphere may pave the way for moderate rainfall across the plains in Jammu and Kashmir.Lotus further said snowfall has broken the cold spell prevailing in the Valley.“There has been considerable improvement in the temperature as it has gone one degree Celsius above freezing temperature,” he said.
