DC Kulgam visits Waltengoo, reviews arrangements for disaster mitigation

Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Showkat Aijaz Bhat, who is also chairman of District Disaster Management Committee today visited Waltengoo Naad and its adjoining areas to review the arrangements put in place to deal any exigency or natural disaster. Pertinent to mention that this area is vulnerable to snowstorm and it suffered a heavy snow blizzard in year 2005.The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Commandants of different security agencies, ASP Kulgam, Exen R&B Qazigund subdivision, AEE PDD & PHE, CMO, Assistant Commissioner Development, Tehsildar Devsar, AD FCS&CA and other officers.During the visit, the DC was informed that 62 families have been shifted to residential sheds at Naboo Colony. The DC also inspected these shelter sheds and took stock of the facilities available there.The DC was informed that a team of 28 volunteers have been imparted training regarding rescue and relief operations to deal with natural disasters. 

The DC stressed on equipping the team with requisite equipments to make them more effective and efficient.AD FCS&CA informed the DC that adequate stock has already been dumped in these areas. Besides, stock has also been dumped at temporary rescue shelter at Razloo.Meanwhile, the DC directed the officers of PHE Department to ensure water tanker service in the area to facilitate the people. He also directed for establishing a control room at Devsar and designated the concerned Tehsildar its nodal officer.The CMO was asked to place services of an ambulance on call to mitigate any emergency. The ARTO was also directed to ensure the proper transport facilities in this area.Later, the DC chaired a meeting with the officers and locals at Government Higher Secondary School, Razloo which has been designated as the temporary rescue shelter. He patiently listened to the demands put forth by the people and assured them that the district administration will leave no stone unturned to mitigate public issues and provide efficient public delivery system.
